How to start selling on Amazon

Whether you have an established e-commerce business, a great idea for a new product, or just a passion for selling, here's how to take the next step with Amazon.

Before you start

Choose a selling plan

With the Individual plan, you pay $0.99 every time you sell an item. The professional plan costs $39.99 per month, regardless of how many items you sell. For both plans, Amazon also collects a referral fee on each sale, which is a percentage of the total transaction and varies by product category. Visit our pricing page for an overview of sales charges.

Perfect Launch: five steps for your first 90 days

For new Amazon sellers, the first 90 days are especially important for establishing the right practices to accelerate post-launch performance. Perfect Launch is what Amazon's data scientists call the use of five sales programs—Brand Registry, A+ Content, Fulfillment by Amazon, Automated Pricing, and Advertising—in the first 90 days. New sellers who take these five steps in this critical time frame can generate sales faster, and many of the most successful sellers have already done so.

Create an Amazon seller account

You can use your customer account to start selling, or you can create a new Amazon seller account with your business email. Residents of these countries are eligible.

Before you register, make sure you have the following ready:

·         Company email address or Amazon customer account

·         International chargeable credit card

·         Government Identification Number (identity verification protects sellers and customers)

·         Tax information

·         Telephone number

·         A bank account where Amazon can send you the proceeds from your sales

Go mobile

With the Amazon Seller app, you can track sales, fulfill orders, find products for sale, answer customer questions, take and edit professional-quality product photos, and create listings—all from your phone.

Adding your products

What can you sell on Amazon? It depends on the product, category, and brand.

Some categories are open to all sellers, some require a professional seller account, some require sales approval, and some include products that cannot be sold by third-party sellers.

The table below provides an overview of Amazon's product categories, but visit Seller Central Help to learn more about restrictions and how to request approval. If you ship orders through Fulfillment By Amazon, be sure to review the specific list of FBA product restrictions.

Product listing details

To start selling a product on Amazon, create a product listing in Seller Central (or through the API). The list of products includes:

·         A product identifier, such as a GTIN, UPC, ISBN, or EAN, that precisely identifies the item you are selling. You can obtain a UPC code directly from GS1 or request an exemption.

·         A SKU, which is a product ID that you create to track your own inventory

·         Offer details, including price, product status, available quantity and shipping options

·         Product details such as name, brand, category, description, and images

·         Keywords and search queries to help buyers find your product

If the same product is already offered by another seller, you will match an existing record (which means some details will already be provided, such as the product identifier). If you are the first seller to offer a product, you will create a new listing.
